Is it ok to place a layer of petroleum jelly on the refrigerator gasket to maintain a tight seal. I read in the March issue of Handyman saying that will cause the gasket to tear over time. Any opinions? Thanks for all your time.
If the gasket is not brittle I would give it ( gasket) and where meets the frig a good cleaning and see if that helps.
In the link below it does mention petroleum jelly, but only for the hinge side to prevent drag on the newly installed one.
Here's a link to a video showing an easy way to replace the gasket..
