How to refinish formica kitchen cabinets?

    How to refinish formica kitchen cabinets?

    We would like to update our kitchen. We recently purchased and our kitchen hasn't been updated and is stuck in the 1980's with formica cabinets.  Is there a way to re-finish this type of finish if there is and you know how please share? (I have researched and have not found the answer)
