I don't have a suggestion, but you may want to check for asbestos.
I suggest using an oscillating tool, or multifunction tool, with a blade/scraper tool attached to it. Use a razor blade to score the flooring into strips, then use the multi-tool to get it up. I have done this many times, and while it's not an easy task, it beats heating and pulling.
Harbor Feight has the tool on sale today for $15.99. (http://www.harborfreight.com/oscillating-multifunction-power-tool-68861-8493.html?ccdenc=eyJjb2RlIjoiOTExODQwMzkiLCJza3UiOiI2ODg2MSIsImlzIjoiMTUuOTkiLCJwcm9kdWN0X2lk%0D%0AIjoiODQ5MyJ9%0D%0A)
Scraper blade is sold separately. Best tool I've ever owned.
