I've just bought a new house and the Tub and Shower basin is not draining properly. There is always a small puddle of water sitting near the drain after all of the water settles after a shower. What can I do to get the water to drain properly? There is tile around the tub basin and it's a one piece tub and Shower Surround. Any ideas? I really don't want to pull up the tile because I don't have any spares to replace them with if they break.
Are you refering to the area around the drain. Most likely it's the design of the tub. The drain is slightly higher then the tub itself damming up a small puddle of water. If it's a big issue with you then use a squeegee to help the water into the drain. Also while your their with this squeegee wipe down the shower walls followed by a light wiping with the same towel you just dried off with. This will help eliminate any water chemicals from building up on the shower walls that will require removing due to an unsightly appearance at a latter date. My Dad taught me that trick 40 yrs. ago. Works good on glass door enclosures along the tub also. No scum build up on the doors or the walls.
There is no easy fix for what you are describing. All the tile in your shower base should be sloped to the drain and your drain is the lowest part of your shower base. Sounds like a poor installation of the tile base. If it is not leaking anywhere, I would not touch it. There is no other way to solve your problem than to pull the tile up and redo your base the right way or to do what the other post said to do...........
