2000 Chevy Cavalier

I have a 2000 Chevy Cavalier and I just noticed that my back window won't go back up. I know AC repair but I don't know much about this type of problem with cars. how much does it cost for a moter for the power windows in this car?

First I would take the cover off and see if it's not something simple, like a bolt or off track. If not I would check the electric switch and the wiring, If all is good then I would think about the motor. I purchased a motor for my 2003 chevy silverado if I remember correctly it about $65.00. Just did a quick check at auto zone and they went down in price to $42.00. Beware:::::::: They can be a PITA.....

Sorry I am so late to the party, but maybe this can help someone else in your situation, since you probably have already taken care of it.

Anyway, I had the same problem with my daughter's 04 Chevy Colorado.  Unfortunately is was during the winter last year and we were having lousy weather.  Luckily I had a garage to put it in.  Back to the fix, unhook the battery and let the car sit overnight without the battery hooked up.  Thei will reset the onboard computer.  The next morning, hook the battery back up and try your luck with the window.  If it does not go up right away, you may have to drive it around the block a time or two, and try putting it back up.

It's the cheapest fix out there, and hopefully it won't be a bad switch!

Am not familiar with your particular vehicle. Guess the vehicle is a 4 door and you are talking about the rear door window not working (going back up). Don't know if GM made vehicle with rear hatch or not. Try operating window on other side of vehicle and listen for the sound that happens when that window works normally. Then try the "non working window" and what sound happens. If you cannot her any action (motor) then check fuse in the window circuit. If the fuse is OK then a wire or connection may have loosened. If you can get to the inside of the door area disconnect the wires to the switch for the window that is not working.. Use a volt meter to see if the is juice to the wires. If there is juice then check the switch out. If the switch is OK then a linkage may have loosened or even come completely apart in some manner. Or a "ground wire" is not making contact.  Do not know exact way GM does the linkage but Ford used a plastic tube with a cable to make the window go up and down. Maybe a "clip" that holds the cable in place is broken. If GM uses something similar then maybe the cable has broken or a fastener at the end of the cable is broken/loose. On 79 Ford Full size Bronco rear window had sensor switch at side of window guide and I had that sensor break down and had to replace that sensor. Check the service manual (maybe at dealer) and get an idea how everything goes together.  critter2

One of my co-workers helped me with the same problem of my car. Initially, it was working perfectly fine, but I noticed that there seems to be a difficulty for the window to close. As I have a little of experience in fixing cars due to my short stint in selling car parts during my college years, I managed to fix it but it was only short lived. Eventually, I had to refer it to my co-worker who helped me with it. Apparently, the motor and the screws were a little outdated and were replaced. Good thing that we have a staff discount, and so I managed to get the parts at a better price.
